Brutus is the current Alpha male in Amari’s troop. He took the Alpha position from Donald. Brutus is a large male that has racked up quite a few scars from fighting with other males. One of Brutus’ most notable injuries was when he split his lip to his nose, and it healed back together just fine. People were worried that it wouldn’t heal back together, but after a few weeks, it’s hard to tell that he had an injury on his lip in the first place.

Brutus tends to be one of the more balanced Alphas. He fights when he needs to, but doesn’t show a lot of unnecessary aggression. Even when the babies irritate him, he’ll grab them roughly, but that’s about it. Brutus has never injured an infant or female in the troop.

When Brutus came into Amari’s troop, he seems to have been won over by Popeye and now spends the majority of his time with her. He will also babysit Sweet Pea and protect him from other monkeys. Brutus always has a zoned out look on his face when sitting around. He’s one of the calmer males in the troops we follow.

We have started to see a new male in Amari’s troop and are waiting to see if he overthrows Brutus for the title of Alpha. Brutus looked pretty beat up in some of the recent videos.

Defining Characteristics:

• Vacant look on his face
• Light gray with a darker patch of gray fur on his head.
• He has a very “Square” head in comparison to other males
• His left nostril is bigger than his right nostril
• His left nostril has a tear at the top
• He has a faint scar/indent where he split his left upper lip
• His left ear has a tear at the top
• His pointer finger on his right-hand sticks straight up at all times
