Brianna

Brianna is an adult hybrid monkey, which means she is a mix of long-tail macaque and pigtail macaque. She has a daughter named Bridget who is also a hybrid and her mother, Teresa, is a pigtail macaque. Many of the female pigtail macaques in the area mate with the long-tail macaque males. We don’t know a lot about the pigtail macaques or where they came from, but each troop seems to have a few of them.

In July 2017 Brianna gave birth to a baby that unfortunately did not survive. She was one of the few mothers that didn’t carry her infant after. Brianna cleaned her infant and chewed off the cord, but once she finished she walked away from her baby. Teresa ended up carrying the infant around for a few days. Brianna still spends a lot of her time around Teresa. You will generally see Teresa grooming Brianna.

Defining Characteristics:

• She has a slightly longer tail than a normal Pigtail Monkey.
• Her fur is a light beige color.
• Her body shape is similar to a long-tail.
• She has the traditional long-tail white on her eye lids.
• Her face shape is a shorter version of a pigtail face.
  • It looks like her nose and mouth don’t protrude as much as a pigtail’s.
• She has the same fur pattern around her face as a long-tail.
